`We are all apprentices in a craft where no one ever becomes a master' - Ernest Hemingway

NOTL Writers’ Circle
was launched in March of 2013 by  founding member, Hermine Steinberg, to bring together people in our community who love to write.

Our group is diverse: novices to professionals, and people from many backgrounds. This diversity and the richness of experience brings vitality to our meetings.

Being part of a writing community that supports our efforts and provides us with constructive feedback, keeps us motivated and challenged.

Our Goals:
  • Share information
  • Inspiration
  • Support and encouragement
  • Challenge each other to meet writing goals
  • Opportunities to learn
  • Have fun!

Anyone wanting to join our writing community and residing in Niagara-on-the-Lake is welcome.

In addition to our critiquing meetings, we have regular workshops and open mic sessions.

If you'd like to join us, contact our Treasurer– Richard West at rwest1564@gmail.com

A Fond Farewell

We're sad to announce the death of Jean Baker and Myrtle Burton, two of our founding members in the past few months. Both were founding members of our club, and workshopped their writing at our meetings.

Jean Baker was born in Leicester, England and grew up in the war years. She came to Canada in 1957 and became a teacher. Her articles were featured in newspapers and magazines. She was an excellent pianist, and a world traveller. Her novel, 'Albatross Hall' was published in 2022.

Myrtle Burton was a dual citizen of Canada and the United States. She was an avid painter, and had a career as an art teacher. Her world travels gave her many insights that were shared in her poetry, essays and art. Her novel, 'Gallimaufry: Fiction, Poetry and Reality' was published in 2019.
